    • Can this be worn on the attacking/spiking hand in volleyball without limiting movement and performance?
    • Thank you for contacting Better Braces. You should be able to wear thsi brace for volleyball without restricting performance. It is importnat to note the brace is designed to limit hyperextension so it may feel different as you are getting used to wearing the brace. As well the brace has hinges on both sides that support the elbow joint, and is designed to restrict movement that would cause extra stress on that joint.

    • I sprained my elbow ligaments and tendons 2 years ago. My doctor told me that my elbows hyperextend (more than 180 degrees) and that I should always be careful not to fully extend my elbow when lifting as I can damage it. Will this product help me prevent injuries when playing Volleyball (serving/spiking)? Is this one better than DONJOY
ELBOW GUARD for the purpose I described?
    • Thank you for contacting Better Braces. The Bionic Elbow has metal hinges to help prevent hyperextension as well as the adjustable criss cross strapping to help reinforce the hinges. The Don Joy Elbow Guard works the same way, the only difference is that you can access the hinges and additional ROM stops can be inserted by a clinician or local representative if you needed more restrictions.
  • DARYL at 9/15/2016 2:24 PM
    • I need a XXL for the brace. Mid Bicep is 17 inches. Do you make a XXL?
    • Thank you for contacting Better Braces. We do not make the Bionic Elbow in a 2XL but we do have that size in the elbow guard that functions the same as it has the hinges and criss cross strapping. The difference is that it has teh ability to add additional stops to assist in restricting motion. https://www.betterbraces.com/donjoy-elbow-guard

    • Thank you for contacting Better Braces. This brace is designed to be worn during athletic competition, however it will depend on your sports regulations if this brace would be allowed. It is always good to check wtih the league organizers to make sure it will be allowed for your sport.

    • My 15 year old daughter has a significant ulnar ligament tear. She needs a brace for dancing. Her mid biceps measurement is only 9 inches. Some of the comments seem to suggest this brace runs smaller than the size chart states. Any chance a small would fit her? Or suggestions for a similar brace in a child's size? Thanks
    • Unfortunately the Bionic Elbow Brace is not made in a smaller size and the manufacturer doesn't make pediatric sizes of elbow immobilizers. If you'd like to try the small size of the Bionic you will have a 60 day return window to send the brace back in the case that it is too large.

    • The Bionic Elbow Brace will provide general elbow support and you can restrict hyper-extension of the elbow. This would be the best brace for you to wear during football after the injury that you had.
  • Logan at 5/1/2016 7:14 PM
    • I have broke both bones in my left forearm last football season I want something that will help give me support protection and some padding for comfort would this be the type of brace I'd need?
    • The Trizone will offer mild support and compression of the elbow and forearem. It will not specifically pad the arm. I would suggest you try Defender Tape for some padding on the forearm

  • Polly Hinshaw at 4/15/2016 2:13 PM
    • I purchased a brace that arrived yesterday but I think it's too small. My bicep measurement was 10.5 so I bought the small I can't get it to slide up my arm enough to get the brackets to be centered on the elbow as it shows in your instructions. I took it with me to PT and he couldn't get it to move up enough on my arm. What do I do. The upper portion is loose and the wrist feels like it's cutting off my circulation.
    • You will need to return the current brace and order the bigger size. Here are the instructions: http://www.betterbraces.com/exchanges
  • Nick at 3/23/2016 1:53 PM

    • I currently wear an elbow brace on my left arm while I sleep to help from bending it. An issues that cause no circulation to my hand. Would this be a good brace to wear on my other arm that wouldn't be huge but still keep my arm in a neutral angle?
    • No this brace is used for instability onf the elbow and I would not suggest wearing it at nigh to bed. We unfortunatly do not have the type of brace for your elb0ow at night that you are looking for.
  • Chad at 3/15/2016 5:37 PM
    • Is there some way of knowing how to properly put on the bionic elbow, because I wear it and it doesn't feel like I am wearing it right.
    • The brace slide on the elbow and the hinges should be even with the center of your elbow joint with the criss-cross straps right over the bend of your elbow. Please refer to the picture on the website http://www.betterbraces.com/bionic-elbow-brace
  • Brad at 3/15/2016 5:35 PM
    • I recently broke my elbow and its fully healed but the only problem is that it is now shaped differently than a normal elbow. I ordered the bionic elbow but the metal hinges on the side cause pain and discomfort to the recovering elbow. Should I return the bionic elbow and get a new product or find another solution?
    • this depends on what you need the brace for. If you need it to prevent a motion or provide support while doing something active you may need to what a bit to use it until the sorness is gone. If you need something for compression maybe a sleeve such as the Trizone elbow would be better right now.

    • I suffered the terrible triad injury to my elbow and broke the radius bone as well. Numerous tendons and ligaments have been torn. I am looking for a brace to support my elbow when doing such things as golfing, gardening, etc. Is the Bionic Elbow Brace one I should consider?

  • jeff at 1/26/2016 11:39 AM
    • I have the elbow guard. What is the difference between the elbow guard and the new Bionic elbow brace?
    • The only difference between the two braces is that the Elbow guard's hinge can be adjusted for range of motion restrictions if needed. Stops can be added to the elbow guard to limit motion but cannot with the Bionic Elbow
  • Mitch at 1/15/2016 9:27 AM
    • I have had chronic medial and lateral tendinitis in both my elbows, just Have them both fixed surgically with the mild TENEX procedure to clean up tendons and remove decades of scar tissue, Dr. says I will be able to get back to my weight training in 6-8 weeks, progressing very slowly.
I was wondering if this Don Joy brace with the hinges will work for weight lifting and will it limit any movements: Curls, Pulldowns, Press etc?
    • The brace is appropriate for elbow support after surgery. It is a neoprene brace so there might be a little limitation in elbow flexion
  • Kh at 1/10/2016 9:16 AM
    • Can this brace be used for weight training? Will it limit curls, bench, etc..?
    • It can be used for weight training and you should be able to get through the entire ROM
  • Christy Willis at 1/6/2016 6:22 AM
    • My son had surgery in November and a screw was put in his elbow. He dislocated his elbow and broke the bone as well. I ordered the Bionic Elbow brace for him to start back with in wrestling, football, etc. I did not know it had metal in it, do you have any other suggestions?
    • If you want a brace that will provide maximum support of the elbow then the Bionic elbow is the only brace to do that. The only other option would be something to provid mild support such as the Trizone elbow Support.

    • I race motocross and have recently dislocated my elbow. I would like to have some kind of support for my elbow for riding in the future and was woundering if this brace will limit my movement or if I need to get the trizone brace?
    • The Bionic Elbow brace provides bilateral support and can restrict extension. this brace would be better suited for you than the Trizone which will offer only mild support.

    • I dislocated my elbow mountain biking and fractured my radial head. I had surgery and have slowly been getting my range of motion back. I'm at the stage where I want to start riding again. I have already done so but am concerned about re dislocating. While this brace offer the protection I need? Will it offer any more protection than the trizone brace in this regard? I like that one because it's lighter and sleeker.
Can I twist my forearm wearing this brace supination/pronation?
How breathable is this brace? Does it get excessively hot?
      Cheers
      Sam
    • Sam the Trizone will not be enough support for your elbow. The bionic elbow is neoprene so it will be a warmer brace but will provide the better support for the elbow.
  • MissRubySFO at 9/3/2015 10:50 AM
    • I do not see how to measure the arm for this product. My bicep is a 15 & my forearm is an 11. I usually order braces a bit snug for the elbow ... not too snug ... but they get sloppy after use. :( What would you recommend, please? Thank you! Have a groovy, pain free day!

    • I can't tell from the photos. Does this brace have metal supports on both sides along with hinges? We are looking for a hinged elbow brace for a radial tendon tear, but need it to be allowed for future use in high school football?
    • Hello,

Thank you for calling Donjoy. Yes, this brace does have a metal upright on both the inside and outside of the elbow brace. The brace is about 15" long for the medium and large, slightly shorter for the small size.

      Have a Great Day.

Great product

I weightlift daily and started experiencing pain in my left elbow. By the end of my workout the pain was so bad that it was a task to hold my cell phone to my ear. I have been using the brace for about a month and haven't had any pain since. The only draw back to the product that I don't like is its size limitation. I would like to see the product increase to accommodate at least an 18 inch bicep. Using the brace for what I do didn't take to long to break it in. I read other reviews that didn't have luck with the stitching around the hinged area. So far I haven't noticed any wear with my brace.

I have a tear in my UCL (tommy John ligament). And have had 4 elbow dislocations. I am 17 years old and play basketball at the varsity level year round. I have found this brace as the only reliable brace, and it gives me confidence that my arm will be stable. The downfall is the brace lasts less then a month with the poor stitching, the metal hinges poke through, defeating the purpose of the prevention of hyperextension. I really hope this can be a fix, maybe put an extra layer of stitching? Or add an extra material to increase the durability of the brace.

2 of my boys had UCL injuries (one a complete break of the medial epicondyle corrected with surgery, the other a partial tear with a medial epicondyle fracture) from wrestling. We used this brace for football season and now for wrestling. It has worked great. It protects the joint, and gives the boys confidence that the elbow is stable. The only downfall is the durability of the brace over a full football season. The neoprene has torn over the hinges due to multiple cleanings and contact during games.
