Before treating heel pain, it's important to discover the cause of the condition. Seek advice from a medical professional before beginning treatment for heel pain. This may include answering questions about your medical history and taking X-rays.

In most cases, heel pain can be resolved without surgery. Heel pain treatment often starts with resting and abstaining from activities that increase pain. Cold therapy can also be applied to the foot using ice packs or foot cryo/cuff. To reduce inflammation, you can take anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen or aspirin.

When experiencing heel pain, make sure you also use proper footwear. Replace shoes that are worn out with new ones with plenty of support (raise heel and arch support). If you're an athlete, use the appropriate footwear for your sport. You can also get heel pain supports such as heel cups which can help alleviate pain. In rare cases, orthotics may be recommended.

Additional ways for heel pain relief include stretch exercises for the foot and calf, losing weight, and massaging. For plantar fasciitis and heel spurs, a plantar fasciitis night splint may help reduce pain, especially in the mornings.
