DonJoy Performer Patella Knee Support reviews

Taylor
These braces solved my patellofemoral pain while running. In the course of about a year I went from only being able to jog about 1 mile to running my first marathon with a time of 4:15:00. Prior to wearing knee braces I had tried a number of other options including custom orthotics inserts, PT, and new shoes; but I still had very severe patellofemoral pains in both of my knees, even during short jogs. Overall these braces are a little heavy for longer distances, so you might want to try using a strap first. They also seemed to put some extra stress on my hip flexors also. I would definitely recommend them for people who want to run and have tried everything else. - Taylor

This brace is great for tendinitis. I play basketball and my knee occasionally pops and i have horrible pain under my knee. throughout the whole season i had no pain. it is a great brace for sports but if your a big runner it is a little heavy and thick. - AJ

    • I have dislocated my kneecap on my right knee 3 times now. But I am a long distance runner. Is this the best brace for my situation? Also I have dislocated my left kneecap once but it feels strong. Should I wear the same brace on the left knee as my right when I return to running?
    • The DonJoy Performer Patella Knee Support is a terrific brace for keeping your knee cap aligned during activity. Since you are a long distance runner you might want to look at a lighter weight brace that will be a bit more ideal for running. Have a look at the DonJoy Tru-Pull Lite (http://www.betterbraces.com/donjoy-tru-pull-lite-12). It's primary function is to help with patella tracking while being lighter and cooler than this Performer Patella which is larger overall and therefore supports the entire knee not just the knee cap.

    • I am an avid basketball player, and i have patella chondromalacia in both my knees. Will this knee brace provide me with optimal support? Also, as of recent my knees tend to accumulate fluid and swell up when I play sports, will this prevent any additional swelling or help keep everything in order?
    • This knee support would be good choice for your condition. The compression and support it provides to your knee should help with your patella chondromalacia and swelling your experiencing.

    • I partially tore my ACL back in November. Spring football is around the corner, wondering if this is a good product to prevent another tare?
    • If you want to have ACL protection during sports, you'll need something desgined to withstand more activity.

  • From Betty at 6/5/11 7:24 AM
    • I have had reconsructive surgery after tearing an ACL. I am looking to get out of the ACL brace that was needed after the surgery (approx. 15 months ago). Is this a good alternative to the ACL brace, which at this point is a little too much brace.
    • The Donjoy Playmaker or the Donjoy Hinged Knee would be a better choice for your condition and activity level.
  • From julia owens at 7/2/11 7:50 PM
    • I have sprained my left knee five times, but it feels stronger now since I have done phisical theraphy, but my patella still moves out of place easy. I play soccer alot and need a brace for running and twisting, will this work?
    • Based on your injury and athletics, I'd recommend the Donjoy Tru Pull Lite.
  • From Mary at 7/22/11 7:13 PM
    • My daughter plays Volleyball and dislocated her kneecap. the Dr. said she may be prone to this in both kneecaps due to how her knees are formed. She had used a J brace, it isnt holding up that well as well as her kneecap doesnt fit into the hole. she has also used a smaller one similar to the True Pull light but the straps stretch so feel loose. does the Performer offer the support the J brace does but maybe this will be easier to put on.
    • No the Perform is not going to provide any more support than the J brace, or the Tru-pull Lite. I would suggest looking at the Tru-pull Advanced System. It is going to provide the most support for the patella.
  • From Rick at 5/26/12 7:24 PM
    • I play tennis. Can this brace be fully flexed since it has stays on each side?
      Thanks.
    • Yes, you can bend your knee normally in the brace.
  • From Danielle at 8/11/12 2:19 AM
    • I tore my ACL last October. I do not have a high activity level, but will like to change that since I will be starting college next week. I noticed there is an ACL sleeve that is the same price as this patella support, but I didn't know if the ACL sleeve had Velcro straps. The straps are very important as I have an odd shaped leg which did not work well with my bulky brace I received post op. the Velcro straps may help keep this brace in place and will be such a relief as I'm walking.
      Please help. (:
    • You should check out the Playmaker it is designed for ACL instability. Or the custom made Defiance or Defiance III.
