DonJoy Arch Rival - Pair reviews

My doctor recommended getting these...what a difference it's made...thanks a lot. Ordering another couple pair for my tennis shoes. So glad to be getting back on the court. - Joseph
I bought several pairs of custom inserts over the last 6 years. My insurance paid over $400 for one pair. When they didn't work, she told me that maybe I should stop running because they couldn't find anything to cure me. I did anti inflammatory and therapy on and of for a few years. My Dr. told me they were all too hard and not the right design for my type of foot. I got a pair and in about 1 week the pain on the outside of my knee was gone !!!!. Not to mention that I also don't roll out my ankle like I used to. - Run4life
I had a permanent limp until a doctor recommended these inserts, no more limping or leg pain! I love these inserts, I would not walk anywhere without them. They are amazing and they have made a huge difference in my life. - Jane

My podiatrist wanted $550 for a custom orthotic that insurance would not cover. I searched for alternatives including custom insoles from sports stores. They don't fully address the problem of a high arch known as Cavus foot. 1 DAY wearing the Arch Rival and the ball of my foot NO LONGER HURTS!! I am beyond thrilled!! I am ordering another pair. Since I wear a women's 8.5, I ordered a size C. Runs a bit big, so am going a size smaller. WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL PRODUCT. Thank you so much Donjoy, for a reasonable alternative THAT WORKS!! - Historic Balch Retreat Owner
After seeing more than 7 "professionals", from podiatrists to pedorthists to chiropractors, all of whom charged hundreds of dollars for their inserts and some who billed my insurance for each visit for adjustments, I was no closer to finding comfort for my feet. When I would try to wear their inserts I could feel that they were not addressing my problem areas. They simply did not recognize or understand the foot type. I have a bag full of expensive inserts I could not wear. I searched constantly for information and finally came upon an article with a link to the Don Joy Arch Rival. I ordered it, and the minute I tried it I knew I had found my answer. I have been using them ever since and each time I go for a walk I am grateful for not coming home with foot, ankle or knee pain. GREAT PRODUCT! - Chris
I have struggled with ankle problems for a long time. When I recently saw a new orthopedist he immediately said I have a Subtle Cavus Foot. As soon as a I put these in my shoes, I felt relief! I got the first pair through his office (for waaay more than here). Long story short, after partially tearing my peroneus bevis, I can no longer wear dress shoes to work. So I am here to buy another pair for a second pair of sneakers that I wear to work. - Alicia

    • I am considering these insoles for high arches, and then I saw you mention them helping with people who walk on the "outside" of their feet. I actually walk with pressure on the inside of my feet (on the big toe side), and wear out my shoes at a angle, with the inner/big-toe side being more warn to nothing, and the outside showing little-to-no wear at all. Would these help this type of situation as well? Thank you!
    • Mark
The Arch Rivals are for those with high arches and a flexed first riay which can cause pain. These would be appropriate for you
  • From Ross at 4/26/2015 10:18 AM
    • I see from a previous question that these are expected to last 1-2 years. I've been using these for the better part of a decade and never had a pair last that long. I attribute this to my 6'4" 230 lb. frame and that I tend to put a lot of miles on them. What do you think?

I believe these would last longer if the material were stouter. I generally see wear on the outer edge after about 6 months. This quickly leads to the formation of a deep groove and impaired performance. Is there another product or process that would last longer?
    • Ross
these insoles are considered off the shelf and would most likley last a year. A custom insoles usually last longer than a year and would need to be made specifically for your foot.
  • From Mary Markle at 4/18/2015 10:26 AM
    • i order what the doctor recommended. I received these today but when I place my foot on the insert the recess area does not line up to where it should be. I ordered A.. the smallest. Do they come in a smaller size. I can trim around the toe area but it is still going to be too big? Thanks .
    • Mary
The A size is the smallest size we carry. They can be trimmed at the toe area but if they will still be too small then trimming may not help with fitting
  • From linda at 4/13/2015 3:52 PM
    • hi, can i wear these without socks.
    • Linda
I would not reccommend wearing the Arch rivals without socks
  • From Marcella McClure at 3/28/2015 6:28 PM
    • Ok I have ordered a pair of these inserts. But I want to be clear about the 90day money back guarentee. Even after I trim the inserts to fit my feet, if they do not help me I can still return them within 90days?

    • Marcie
That is correct, even if you trim the inserts you can return them before 90 days
  • From Marcella McClure at 3/26/2015 5:24 PM
    • My Dr. said that the ball of my foot l has to fit in the depression spot with my heel snuggly in the heel space for the insert. His assistant said that this insert maybe too wide for my foot as these are made for men. I wear a 7.5 medium. He said I would not know if this will work until I put my foot on one. How much is your restocking fee if this cannot work for me? I think a size B is best for me.

    • Marcella
We have a 90 money back guarentee, you would only be responsible for the cost of shipping back to us.
  • From Stephanie at 1/19/2015 8:31 PM
    • I just received these and they seem huge. I am a 8.5/9 womens shoe size and got the C size insert. I can trim them to fit accordingly, but how do I know that my foot is hitting the support correctly (i.e. arch is in the right place, heel, etc..). I feels ok under my foot, just seems like a lot to have to trim.
    • Stephanie
These are trimmable because they are supposed to fit a mans foot as well that will be wider than a females. Be for you trim place your foot on the insert and make sure that the ball of you foot is hitting that round circle if not you may need to change sizes. The sizing in not as exact as we would like

    • I am a runner and have a stress fracture in my foot (metatarsal in my middle toe). It was recommended that I get the DonJoy arch rival inserts. I do not have SCF so wonder if they would help for my issue. Thank you very much.
    • Julie
Im sorry that information was incorrect, the Arch rival will not help your stress fracture. To prevent a stress fracture in the foot a orthotic may help with the addition of a good running shoe. A stress fracture is a overuse injury so rest is the best thing but to help with pain while walking a walking boot would help.
  • From Chrissy at 3/11/2014 7:01 AM
    • I received the insert and went to fit it but with the ball of my foot in the correct spot I have about a centimeter of space at the heel. Should I get a size lower or is that ok?
    • Thank you for your question. Going a size smaller would be beneficial if you are close to the sizing of the smaller size.
  • From Jon at 2/11/2014 9:39 AM
    • Would these orthotics relieve peroneal tendenosis and how? Thanks
    • Jon
These are used to treat high arches and provide cusioning to those who have a rigid foot. I would recomend speaking to your health care practitioner about what will work for your injury, thee are most likely not the answer
  • From Lisa at 9/4/2013 1:41 PM
    • If my shoe size is between your size chart, is it better to go on the bigger side?
    • Yes the bigger would be recommended.
  • From Donna at 8/29/2013 11:13 AM
    • Will these orthotics relieve pain associated with a sesamoid fracture?
    • That is a question for your physician.
  • From Kate at 3/19/2013 7:17 PM
    • I have been told I need Don Joy Arch Rival for my high arches and after pulling a tendon on left foot. I wanted to ask that I have a script from the dr so how would I go about having my insurance cover any portion? And how long does it normally take to get them once I order them?
    • Kate,
We do not bill insurance, you will have to submit the bill to you insurance yourself. As for ordering and delivery, The order would go out either the day it is placed if placed before 2 EST or the next day if after that cut off. We offer free standard shipping, but you can upgrade to overnight shipping.

    • Hello,

I recently ordered a pair of DonJoy Arch Rival arch supports. I realize this is probably a stupid question, but I am supposed to remove the lining that is already in the shoe or place the support on top of what is already there?

      Your help is appreciated.

    • You should remove the current insoles, and then put the Arch Rivals in.
  • From Hari at 9/5/2011 3:21 PM
    • I purchased Arch Rival inserts one month ago. I am very pleased with the lateral mid foot pain relieve component. I feel I need a little bit more lateral heel support. What do you suggest for my condition? Is heel cup a good option?
    • Unfortunately there is no way to build the heel on the Donjoy Arch Rival. You may want to discuss this with your podiatrist.
  • From NN at 8/12/2011 1:14 PM
    • I have been using Donjoy Arch Rival for 18 months or so. It worked very well on pain I had on my rigth ankle. The pain is coming back now. Do you think I need to replace the arch rivals for new ones?
    • if they are starting to feel worn down or soft compared to what they use to feel, I would advice to order new ones. These usually last up to 1-2 years, just depending how much your are wearing them and walking in them.
  • From CRUSADER at 7/31/2011 8:33 AM
    • It should, if not there is a 30 Money Back Guarantee, you can send it back and get your money back.
  • From Gary Cooper at 4/13/2011 12:37 PM
    • 69yrs old, 316lbs, feet are killing me with pain, all my pressure goes to the outside of my feet behind my little toes on the flat part of my feet. All my shoes push out that side like a banana shape. I feel better when I get home and go bare foot. I do have custom suports that are 6yrs old, can't use them because they are taper the same way, towards the outside of my foot. Do you thing the arch rivals would work . I was refered tto these by a orthopedic. Please advise before I order. Size D
    • Thank you for taking the time to email us here at regarding the Donjoy Arch Rivals. These products are ideal for patients that have high arches that walk on the outside of their feet. If your doctor feels that this fits your needs, this would be recommended.
  • From Vickie at 3/12/2011 8:07 PM
    • I have really high arches, my foot pain is extreme. My orthopedist recommended these for me. I also have severe tendon and ligament issues. The way he explained these would relax my arch and help eleviate the tension in my achielles tendons. Buy my concern is that it might not have enough arch support . Do you have any recommendations. I look for customer comments and didn't see any.
    • Hello Vickie,
Thank you for taking the time to email us here at regarding the Donjoy Arch Rivals. Yes this product is recommended for someone like yourself with high arches. There is still mild arch support but it is ideal for individuals that need to set their foot in a neutral position for proper alignment.
