The Short walking boot offers a solution to a number of indications related to the forefoot, mid-foot and hind foot injuries, as well as some ankle injuries.

The main indications for the Short are:

  • Metatarsal fracture
  • Stress and stable fracture of the foot
  • Bunionectomy, hallux valgus
  • Soft tissue injury
  • Severe ankle sprain

The Short has a durable, semi-rigid shell that helps support the limb while providing protection. The pre-inflated front panel and two adjustable distal aircells, housed within the shell, provide compression and support. SoftStrike technology absorbs and dissipates shock, while the light weight and lab-tested rocker sole combine to encourage a natural gait and a continuation of everyday activities.

Features & Benefits

  • Customizable, independent aircells (NO separate hand bulb). Integrated inflation system puts the user in control for an individualized fit
  • Non-marking, skid resistant rubber tread. For greater traction and longer wear.
  • Removal of heel pain. SoftStrike technology absorbs and dissipates the energy during heel strike
  • Low profile rocker sole. The lab-designed rocker sole, enables a normal walking gait with less forefoot angulations and reduces hyperextension of the knee. Toe-off section continues the rocking motion, enhancing mobility. Mid-stance section is designed to minimize hip differential.
  • Custom and comfortable fit. Trimmable and heat moldable semi-rigid shell makes it easy to custom-fit the brace to the patient. Sleek, open-frame design provides ventilation and maximum patient protection and compliance. Shell contours around the malleoli, eliminating pressure for sustained comfort. AirSelect boots have improved width around the ankle area as well as uniformed sizing throughout the various sizes of the boot (XS-XL).
  • Ease of application. Three-strap system evenly disperses pressure, eliminates pooling of edema. Integrated inflation system is intuitive and permits quick and easy customization of each aircell.

Aircast AirSelect Short Walking Boot reviews

I had a non-displaced fracture at the base of my fifth metatarsal The doctor sent me to a orthotics specialist to get a camwalker boot fitted. It became apparent not long after wearing the boot was causing more pain and discomfort then I was already experiencing from my injury . My foot was badly bruised and swollen as well from injury . I thought there had to be something better than what the doctor or hospital would give you did my research and came across Better Braces and found the suitable boot for my injury , ordered it and it arrived next day watched the You Tube how to correctly put it on and it immediately was apparent that this boot was vastly superior to my previous boot the pre inflated front panels And the two side adjustable air cells ( which I just periodically during the day depending if I'm walking all resting ) made this boot extremely comfortable I could not believe the difference lighter and more shock absorbant . It honestly felt like my foot was surrounded by a soft cloud of air and really secure, unlike the old one the support to my foot and ankle With the new Aircast Airselect boot was evenly distributed the pain in wearing the boot now was gone . The old one the straps were making my bruising worse . I sit here now writing this still with my boot on in my third week I can tell that progress is getting better than if I had stuck with old boot . One last point if there is any medical professional reading this and you get a patient with a similar injury this is the boot you should be recommending anything else's in an injustice . - Anthony

After severe bunionectomy with hammertoe surgery, I was out of commission for weeks. Luckily after the first week, my podiatrist fitted me with the Aircast AirSelect Short Walking Boot, and I was able to leave the recliner and walk a bit as pain allowed. This boot met the partial weight bearing requirements, while protecting my toes that had pins sticking out along with a metal plate. My 5 year old granddaughter added bling to the boot, and I get many comments on it! Thanks for making such a great product!! - Bell96

  • From Naomi at 9/12/14 9:48 PM
    • What is the weight of this boot? (aircast air select short walking boot)
    • Thank you for your question. The weight of the Air Select Short will depend on the size, but will range from 1.25 pounds to 2 pounds. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.
  • From Linda at 9/8/14 4:35 PM
    • I have a hairline fracture in my ankle bone (two weeks ago) and I have the air cast walking boot. I am finding it bothersome wearing it in bed - I wear it about 80% of the day. Is it necessary that I continue to wear it at night while sleeping?
    • Linda
That would be a question for your physician
  • From Millie at 7/8/14 5:05 AM
    • I started wearing this boot yesterday afternoon for a hairline fracture to the base of my toes & I'm non-weight bearing for now.
I have started to form a blister on my heel for some reason & I asking for suggestions to stop the blister from forming more.
Also, can I wear a lightweight sock to stop any friction as long as I don't have any open sores while wearing this boot?
    • Millie
Please contact your physician and let them know about the blister. It is strange that you are not ambulating on the foot and you have developed a blister. You can wear a sock, and make sure that you are pumping up the aircells in the boot to eliminate as much movemement as possible in the foot. The more movment the more friction, just make sure that you are not making it so tight that you are cutting off your circulation.
  • From Kris greenwood at 6/26/14 3:11 PM
    • Do you sell just the liner? I have another 6 weeks in the boot and need an additional liner. This one is wearing out.
    • Kris
I am sorry we do not have a replacement liner for that boot
  • From Michele at 6/23/14 12:20 PM
    • I am preparing to have foot surgery on a lisfranc fracture - I will need to be non weight-bearing for 6-ish weeks. I presume that this boot cannot be used for that and is used later in the recovery process?
    • Michele
The boot can be worn after surgery if your physician is okay with that.
  • From Cristin at 6/8/14 3:03 PM
    • Where can I purchase a replacement liner for this boot? I have another 4 weeks to go in mine and with the warm weather, it would be nice to have a back up liner for when I'm washing and air drying the other one.
    • Christin
That insole is not available for sale on BetterBraces. You will need to order that direct from DonJoy at 800-336-6596
  • From Chelle at 5/26/14 8:06 PM
    • How well does this boot protect the foot after bunionectomy with toe fusion, and hammertoe surgery? Is walking in this boot considered partial or full weight bearing?

      Thank you!
    • Thank you for your question. The AirCast AirSelect Short Walking Boot is designed to be worn after a bunionectomy. It will allow for partial weight bearing for the foot.
  • From Lori Sloane at 5/21/14 5:16 PM
    • Will this boot work on bone marrow edema or heel pain?
    • The Boot will immobilize the foot and ankle which will decrease pain while walking
  • From Greg at 5/17/14 9:35 PM
    • hi- im not clear if this brace is a better option than the 84.00 air cast short walking boot
what does this one do that the other doesn't.. looks like the air bladders are custom but what else. I have a 4th metatarsal stress fracture as well as a stress fracture on the navicualr. I need a good walking boot. i was given a rebound air walked by my dr and it is a poor design and not immobilizing my foot. pls help
    • Greg
The AirSelect Short is a re-designed model from the Aircast SP walker. The aircells have been changed for easier inflation and the front panel is pre-inflated. The boot was made lighter than the older model. The AirSelect walking boots have been optimized to provide a more natural gait to the patient, and less hip differential, which has been a cause of discomfort for some patients. The bottom of the sole has a improved non-marking skid resistant rubber tread for greater traction and longer wear.
  • From Taryn Boase at 3/28/14 4:14 PM
    • Wii this air boot be suitable for rupture plantar fascia?

What is the difference between top model and the bottom of the range model?
    • Taryn
The Airselct Short Walking boot should be ok for that injury. The difference between that boot and the Airselct Elite is the hieght, and the Elite has three air chambers compared to two chambers in the short.
